You may develop a poor self-image, leading to depression, a feeling of hopelessness, and even suicidal thoughts. Preaching is one means to that end, and therefore when I ponder what to preach, I look for things that will stir you up to trust God with all your heart. And I find who God says I am in the pages of the bible. Whereas God can say I Am who I Am, you and I can only say, I am who God says I Am. I believe God has gifted me to write powerful expository sermons that will bless many congregations through anointed pastors, evangelists, and teachers. But to all who have received him--those who believe in his name--he has given the right to become God's children … (John 1:12). Since 1960, not a day goes by that the first thought is "I am what God says I am". If you choose to define yourself, or you permit people or even the devil to define you, one of two things will happen: Don’t allow people to define you; and don’t try to define yourself; and don’t allow Satan to define you. No revelation can ever plumb the depths of God. Grant this, O God, we pray in Jesus Name. I want you, friends, to picture Abraham in a party, at a friend’s house, the following day. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s eyes. And Moses said, if I go now, who would I say sent me? What an extraordinary risk God had taken in sending His Son. Here God identifies Himself as the covenant God, the One who has sovereignly initiated a relationship with His people. And you are who God says you are. Please, help them to see themselves from your standpoint; for only what you say, who you say we are is what we ultimately become, and that will be to the glory and praise of Your Name, a blessing to Yourself and to others who will come in contact with them. So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. Which means then, that what mattered was what the heavenly Father said about Jesus Christ. In his classic book, Mere Christianity C. S. Lewis addresses the idea of Jesus being who he said he was, the Son of God: “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about (Jesus): I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.
